Monkey: A Journey to the West

Told by Sebastian Lockwood

February 22, 2012 - 7 pm

NHIA French Building Auditorium

Local bard, Sebastian Lockwood, presents the great and beloved Asian epic Monkey at the New Hampshire Institute of Art on February 22. The audience will follow Monkey from his origin, to his becoming King of the Monkeys and his ascent to heaven and the havoc he wreaks there, and his final imprisonment by Buddha for 500 years under a mountain. Quan Yin will free him, and with Sandy, Pigsy and the monk Tripitaka, they will set off on a great adventure to the West. Think yellow brick road! Based on the new translation by Anthon C. Wu, students will create the set for the show and a soundscape will be provided by The John Singer Sargent Choir.
